Crossing the Sea

¹⁷ When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”^(A)

³¹ “I will establish your borders from the Red Sea^[a] to the Mediterranean Sea,^[b] and from the desert to the Euphrates River.^(A) I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out^(B) before you.

²³ And as for the Avvites^(A) who lived in villages as far as Gaza,^(B) the Caphtorites^(C) coming out from Caphtor^[a](D) destroyed them and settled in their place.)
